Avril Lavinge still relevent in her own mind
There were some people who were cynical when Avril Lavigne first burst onto the scene as a 17-year old pop princess. With a pseudo-punk attitude and catchy tunes, there were many people who questioned her authenticity. What there was no denying however, was her appeal to young girls around the world. Whether her image was in fact a manufactured persona or, at least in part, a product of Lavigne herself, the appeal was genuine and undeniably huge, making her for a time one of the biggest music stars in the world.
For a girl from a small Canadian town, the achievement of selling nearly 30 million records is nothing to sneeze at. Though other big acts, such as Rush and Neil Young, were also from small Canadian towns their success has come over decades of touring and cult acclaim. Even big stars like Shania Twain and Celine Dion spent their early years struggling to find a voice but for Lavigne the success was instantaneous and massive. By the time her third album was tearing up the record charts it appeared, briefly, that her success might have been more than a flash in the pan but since then not much has happened, at least on the music front. Now with promises of a new album and a tabloid romance with Brody Jenner, Lavigne has apparently continued to believe that she is still relevant, at least to herself.
"Avril is currently on vacation and will be touring this summer, at least briefly. She's also been working hard on her new album which we expect will be released sometime this year. She's also continuing with her clothing line and her perfume. She's also remaining active in all her charitable causes," said a spokesperson for the singer. "Avril wants her fans to know that she hasn't forgotten about them and very shortly their patience will be well rewarded. She just knows that the long wait for her new album will be more than worth it."
Official estimates put the number of Avril Lavigne fans at about 14, though estimates by her label put the number slightly higher.

Ask Tory: Summer Essentials
Q: I’m getting ready for summer Fridays and long weekends. What are the five things I need? — Daniela, Maryland
A: My boys and I are counting down the days — we spend our weekends in Southampton. We go to clam bakes, we fish, and my boys surf (I watch), so layers are essential — a graphic button-down shirt I throw over shorts, a classic cotton cardigan, white jeans and flat sandals. And, of course, sunglasses and a swimsuit! — Tory

Avril Lavigne - Skater Boy: This is what I first heard from her
He was a boy
She was a girl
Can I make it any more obvious
He was a punk
She did ballet
What more can I say
He wanted her
She'd never tell secretly she wanted him as well
But all of her friends
Stuck up their nose
They had a problem with his baggy clothes
He was a skater boy
She said see you later boy
He wasnt good enough for her
She had a pretty face
But her head was up in space
She needed to come back down to earth
5 years from now
She sits at home
Feeding the baby she's all alone
She turns on tv
Guess who she sees
Skater boy rockin up MTV
She calls up her friends
They already know
And they’ve all got
Tickets to see his show
She tags along
Stands in the crowd
Looks up at the man that she turned down
He was a skater boy
She said see you later boy
He wasn't good enough for her
Now he's a super star
Slamming on his guitar
Did your pretty face see what he's worth?
Sorry girl but you missed out
Well tough luck that boy's mine now
We are more than just good friends
This is how the story ends
Too bad that you couldn't see,
See the man that boy could be
There is more that meets the eye
I see the soul that is inside
He's just a boy
And I'm just a girl
Can I make it any more obvious
We are in love
Haven't you heard
How we rock each other's world
I'm with the skater boy
I said see you later boy
I'll be back stage after the show
I'll be at the studio
Singing the song we wrote
About a girl you used to know
She was a girl
Can I make it any more obvious
He was a punk
She did ballet

Tory Burch:It's not simple as a brand , but also an attitude to life
Do you like Tory Burch? This is a
wonderful person. She has brought us not only as simple as a brand , but also an
attitude to life .
In an impressively short time, Tory Burch has created a multimillion-dollar lifestyle brand based on herself. Raised in an historic Georgian house on rolling acres in Pennsylvania, she was a tomboyish kid more likely to be found up a tree than in a dress. Still, she soaked up plenty of style from her parents, who were among the Main Line gentry: Her father, heir to a paper-cup fortune, designed his own clothes and lined his suit jackets with Hermès scarves; her mother favored the easy patrician chic of Jacqueline Onassis. Burch credits her family as a primary influence on her taste, along with the decorator David Hicks, whose color-charged graphics from the sixties and seventies still look "very fresh" to her today.
Burch studied art history and then honed her public relations chops with jobs at Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, and Narciso Rodriguez. As a designer whose approach is informed by her foundation in marketing, rather than fashion school, she is an interesting case study. Over the years she envisioned the Tory Burch empire to come, amassing tear sheets from magazines and old photos in an ever-burgeoning scrapbook. She launched her first collection out of the Upper East Side apartment in Manhattan that she shared with her then-husband and business partner, Chris Burch. A downtown boutique followed; and, in an indicator of the phenomenal retail success to come, nearly all inventory was cleared out on opening day.
Burch set her sights on an overlooked market: aspirational mid-career women and Bergdorf moms seeking affordable quality with the timelessness of good taste. Setting her price points lower than the competition's, she bridged the gap between the haves and the have-nots, in the hopes that both would want to wear her wares. "Luxury, as I see it, is not exclusionary,"she told Town & Country in 2008.
With this solid business plan in hand, Burch tapped in and struck gold. Women clamored for the versatile tunics, modeled by Burch after a Paris flea-market find, in the bright palette and prints that have become her signature. Early on, a glowing endorsement from Oprah gave the brand the proverbial Midas touch. And it has been winged victory ever since, with urban ballerinas snapping up the trendy Reva flat, emblazoned with her ubiquitous double-T medallion, in enough colors to put a crayon box to shame. Tory Burch knows her customers well, and they throng to her tangerine-walled boutiques to get a piece of the action—that blend of preppy-chic and boho bling that many of them will want to wear for a lifetime.
